Spend as much gold as possible on upgrades at every chance, either on the Manor's upgrades or buying from the Smithy and Enchantress, since any remaining gold will be lost before re-entering the castle, unless the Haggle upgrade has been purchased, wich will allow you to keep a fraction of your gold, depending on the upgrade's level. The more upgrades that are purchased, the larger the Manor becomes, allowing access to even more upgrades. But just go into it with a bit of understanding until they sort it out (Update: Looks like heaps of fixes have now been released!).After the player dies and has chosen a new heir, they are taken to their Manor which doubles as the Upgrades screen where gold may be exchanged for various upgrades and unlocks. It seems to happen most on entering the castle and the nature of the game makes it unlikely to be a big deal. It isn’t often, maybe once every couple of hours or something like that. Exploring with a spelunker and then locking down the castles to take out bosses is the recipe for success. ![]() The spelunker class on the other hand? It gives you extra gold and the ability to see all chests and secret rooms. This is one skill you will need to boost. If you can’t equip something? Check your total weight.Early on especially, unlocking and equipping better equipment will pay better dividends than trying to boost the corresponding skills.Especially if you are close to death and do not have much gold saved up, it may be better to leave them till the next run. It does not however reset mini-games so be very careful when attempting these. Restarting a “locked” level gives you another shot at fairy chests.However the “shout” class skill can come in very handy as it also clears the screen of certain projectiles (you’ll know when you need this…). Magic in the game is generally pretty situational and you suffer from a lack of MP. If you can’t be a Shinobi, always consider a Barbarian.Hence the Shinobi classes are your easy mode “get stuff done/take out bosses” weapon of choice.If you hit a path that seems to lead nowhere? Look for sparkles and press “up”. There are plenty of secret passages that you can travel through leading to chests. Keep an eye out for shaded out areas of walls.Damage is king in this game, especially against bosses.Even when the castle resets, they will still be defeated. You only need to take down a boss once.There are a lot of tiny passages you can get through with them and you’ll get more money. Given the choice, always take the dwarf/small hero.You’ll need them to get certain chests and they make the game a lot more fun. As soon as you can, unlock the air-dash and double jump.Here are some general hints and tips to get you started: Now a lot of the game is figuring out the different systems and what you need to do, so I won’t spoil too much of that. Simple and clean fun, but oh so well done. Each time you get a bit stronger and each time your hero has different traits such as not being able to see colour or shooting magic the wrong way. You enter a random castle, you search for treasure and try to beat some bosses and then you die and start over.
